About the Role

We are seeking a Senior DBA/DBE Consultant to serve as the technical authority on SQL Server internals, performance engineering, and scalability for a leading U.S. financial technology company and regulated bank. This is a hands-on consulting role focused on diagnosing, optimizing, and scaling mission-critical transactional systems supporting high-volume financial operations.

What You'll Do

- Diagnose complex SQL Server production issues using deep knowledge of storage engine internals, query optimization, SQLOS, memory management, transaction logging, and tempdb.
- Lead performance tuning initiatives for high-concurrency OLTP environments.
- Analyze wait statistics, execution plans, DMVs, Query Store, Extended Events, and performance counters.
- Design and optimize indexing, partitioning, statistics, and data lifecycle strategies.
- Resolve blocking, deadlocks, latch contention, parameter sniffing, plan regressions, and I/O bottlenecks.
- Design, implement, and troubleshoot Always On Availability Groups and SQL Server Replication.
- Support disaster recovery planning, validation, testing, and documentation.
- Develop automation using PowerShell, dbatools, T-SQL, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Collaborate with application engineers, SREs, architects, and security teams.
- Provide mentorship to DBAs and developers while serving as a senior escalation point.

Required Qualifications

- 10+ years of SQL Server DBA or Database Engineering experience.
- 5+ years in a senior or principal performance-focused role.
- Expert knowledge of SQL Server 2016–2022 internals.




- Experience supporting large-scale OLTP systems with multi-terabyte databases and thousands of TPS.
- Strong background in financial services, banking, or payments.
- Advanced T-SQL development and execution-plan analysis.
- Deep experience with partitioning, Always On Availability Groups, and Replication.
- Expertise with Query Store, Extended Events, DMVs, and wait-statistics methodologies.
- PowerShell automation experience.
- Experience operating within PCI-DSS, SOX, or similar regulated environments.

Preferred Qualifications

- Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, or SQL Server on Azure/AWS.
- Cloud performance and cost optimization.
- In-Memory OLTP and columnstore implementations.
- SQL Server on Linux or containers.
- Database DevOps tools such as SSDT, Flyway, or Liquibase.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, or Snowflake.
- DP-300, MCSE, MCM, or similar certifications.
- Community contributions through speaking, blogging, or open-source work.
