Laboratory Consultant

Job Summary

The Laboratory Consultant provides clinical and operational leadership for laboratory and pathology services, ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable diagnostic testing.

The role is responsible for maintaining high standards of laboratory quality, overseeing diagnostic processes, ensuring regulatory and accreditation compliance, and supporting clinical teams through expert laboratory consultation.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and provide clinical leadership for laboratory diagnostic services.

Review, interpret, and validate laboratory results to ensure accuracy and clinical reliability.

Establish and maintain laboratory quality assurance and quality control programs.

Ensure compliance with applicable laboratory regulations, accreditation standards, and institutional policies.

Develop, implement, and regularly review laboratory policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.

Supervise laboratory physicians, technologists, and other laboratory personnel.

Monitor laboratory performance, turnaround times, accuracy, and quality indicators.

Investigate abnormal, critical, or questionable laboratory results and provide appropriate clinical guidance.

Participate in clinical consultations and collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Support the implementation of evidence-based laboratory practices and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Ensure appropriate maintenance, validation, and utilization of laboratory equipment and diagnostic systems.

Participate in laboratory audits, inspections, accreditation activities, and regulatory reviews.

Provide mentorship, education,



and professional development opportunities for laboratory staff.

Maintain appropriate documentation and reporting related to laboratory quality and clinical services.

Minimum Qualifications

Medical Degree (MD or equivalent).

Specialist Degree or Board Certification in Clinical Laboratory Medicine or Pathology.

Current medical license or eligibility for medical licensure.

Experience Required

Minimum 5 years of consultant-level experience in Clinical Laboratory Medicine or Pathology.

Extensive experience overseeing clinical laboratory diagnostic services.

Proven experience in laboratory quality management, accreditation, and regulatory compliance.

Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory environment.

Education

Medical Degree (MD or equivalent).

Specialist Degree/Board Certification in Clinical Laboratory Medicine or Pathology.
