About the Role
You will own production and raw materials for one of our brands: turning the sales forecast into production orders for our warehouse and our co-manufacturer, making sure every build has the components it needs, and keeping component stock accurate at both locations. This is a hands-on role for someone who has run production across more than one site and keeps materials organized.
The brand has three product lines, each built from components:
- Line A: 8 components per size, assembled in our warehouse in Los Angeles.
- Line B: 6 components per size, made by an outside co-manufacturer using components we supply.
- Line B2: 2 sizes with 6 components per size. This is a separate version of Line B with its own components, assembled in our Los Angeles warehouse.
The brand sells through two Shopify stores, Chewy, wholesale accounts, and Amazon FBA. Our demand planner owns the sales forecast and Amazon replenishment, and our procurement team buys all components. Your job is the part in between: turning the forecast into production and making sure materials are in the right place on time.
About Us
We are a multi-brand pet products company based in Los Angeles, selling across Amazon, Shopify, TikTok Shop, and major retailers. Our team works remotely across the US, Latin America, and Asia.
What You’ll Do
Production Planning
- Turn the demand planner’s forecast into a production schedule for each product line.
- Plan what our warehouse builds for Lines A and B2 and what our co-manufacturer builds for Line B, including quantities and timing.
- Issue production orders to our co-manufacturer and warehouse team, and track each run through to finished goods.
Raw Materials
- Work out component needs from the production plan, accounting for stock in our warehouse, stock at the co-manufacturer, and quantities already on order.
- Send our procurement team clear requirements: which components, how many, by when, and delivered where.
- Keep raw materials organized at both locations so every build has what it needs, and flag shortages before they stop production.
Recipe Accuracy
- After each production run, coordinate counts of what is left at each location and compare vigente usage with what the run should have used.
- Fine-tune each product’s bill of materials—the recipe of components and quantities per unit—including scrap and waste, until requirements are reliable.
- Reconcile component stock at the co-manufacturer against what we shipped them and what they produced.
Working with Both Production Teams
- Manage our co-manufacturer day to day: production orders, schedules, output, delays, and shortages.
- Schedule warehouse assembly for Lines A and B2 with the warehouse team so it does not collide with their other work.
- Give both teams hands-on follow-up: check in often, catch mistakes early, and help them get each run right.
Reporting
- Keep a clear, formula-driven planning file that anyone on the team can audit.
- Flag component shortages, production delays, and recipe changes early, with a specific recommendation and date.
What This Role Does Not Own
- Finished-goods demand forecasting and Amazon replenishment: Owned by our demand planner.
- Component purchasing and supplier management: Owned by our procurement team.
- Product quality and returns: Owned by another team.
- Pricing and contracts: Owned by the Founder.
You will work closely with each of these teams.
Who You’ll Work With
- Founder & President, your manager: Reviews your production plans and material requirements during your first 60 days and owns pricing and contracts.
- Brand Manager, covering marketing, wholesale, and Chewy: Coordinates promotions, launches, and wholesale orders that affect production timing.
- Demand Planner: Provides the sales forecast you use to plan production and coordinates Amazon shipments and shared warehouse capacity.
- Warehouse Team, Los Angeles: Works with you on Line A and Line B2 production orders and schedules, component receiving and storage, and cycle counts.
- Co-manufacturer: Works with you on Line B production orders, schedules, output, and component stock.
- Procurement Team: Receives your component requirements and required dates, and provides lead times, order status, and delivery dates.
What We’re Looking For
Required
- 3+ years in production planning, production control, or materials planning at a manufacturer, ideally in consumer products.
- Experience scheduling production across more than one site, such as two plants, a plant and a co-manufacturer, or a plant and a subcontractor.
- Experience maintaining bills of materials and tracking actual material usage, scrap, or yield against plan.
- Experience working out component needs from a production plan, with quantities and dates others can act on.
- Experience reconciling inventory counts across locations and finding where the numbers went wrong.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills. You can build a planning model from scratch, without SAP or another ERP, with formulas others can follow.
- A patient, hands-on working style: you follow up often and help production teams get it right.
- Strong written English, B2 or higher, and working hours that overlap with US Pacific Time.
- Fluent Spanish.
Nice to Have
- CPIM or other APICS/ASCM certification.
- Hands-on work with a co-manufacturer, copacker, or maquila, especially where your company supplied the components.
- Experience forecasting finished-goods demand.
- Experience in pet, household, personal care, or food and beverage products.
Hiring Process
1. Screening call and first-round interview: About 45 minutes.
2. Live written English task during a call: Write two short messages about a component shortage. About 15 minutes.
3. Technical assessment: Reconcile conflicting component and finished-goods counts across two locations. About 2 hours.
4. Paid planning exercise: Adjust a product’s recipe after a production run, then send procurement the requirements for the next run. About 1.5 hours.
5. Final interview with the Founder.
