About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Android Platform Engineer to join a US-based client building several AOSP-based Android products.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Build and maintain system and privileged AOSP apps
- Develop platform-integrated apps such as the launcher, settings, and setup wizard
- Build and flash Android images to hardware
- Develop interfaces with D-pad navigation
- Debug and optimize performance on resource-constrained devices

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields
- 5+ years of Android development in Kotlin and/or Java
- Experience building system or privileged apps within an AOSP source tree
- Experience with the AOSP build system (repo, Soong/Android.bp) and flashing images to hardware
- Strong understanding of the Android framework (services, Binder, permissions model, system APIs)




- Strong debugging skills (adb, logcat, dumpsys, Perfetto, ANR and memory analysis)
- Experience with resource-constrained embedded devices
- English level B2+
- Based in Latin America, with availability to overlap with US hours

Don't meet every requirement? We still encourage you to apply. However, hands-on experience building apps within the AOSP source tree is essential. Experience limited to Play Store app development does not meet the requirements for this role.

Nice to Have

- Customized core system apps (launcher, Settings, setup wizard, SystemUI)
- Experience with non-touch UI development

Compensation & Contract Type

- Hourly rate: 35USD per hour
- Contract type: Contractor (12-month engagement, full-time dedication of 40 hours per week)
