Joining Arup
Arup’s purpose, shared values, and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
The BIM Content & Project Support Designer will support the development, testing, maintenance, and deployment of BIM content and digital workflows that enable Arup's global multidisciplinary project delivery. Working under the guidance of senior BIM professionals, the role will transform technical requirements, sketches, and reference information into reliable, efficient, and reusable digital content. The role will also provide project-focused BIM support, assist with model coordination and information management activities, and contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of BIM standards and workflows. As capability and experience grow, the role will expand into broader BIM delivery, project support, and digital enablement activities across a range of disciplines and project types.
Responsibilities
- Create and modify Revit families in accordance with Arup specifications, naming conventions, category settings, and shared parameter requirements.
- Build clear and stable parametric geometry using reference planes, constraints, formulas and appropriate type or instance parameters.
- Configure family categories, subcategories, visibility settings, detail levels, materials, connectors, and room calculation points where required by the specification.
- Create and maintain 2D symbolic content, nested content, clearance zones, maintenance zones, mounting options, and rotation functionality where applicable.
- Flex and test families across sensible dimensional ranges to confirm that geometry, constraints, and formulas remain stable.
- Load families into test projects and check graphical behaviour, scheduling, tagging, parameter values, performance, and compatibility with Arup project templates.
- Maintain clear working files and supporting information so that content can be reviewed, audited, and reused by the wider Integral team.
- Coordinate with BIM specialists, engineers, and discipline reviewers to clarify technical requirements and resolve content issues.
- Work on assigned tasks under direct supervision, communicate progress clearly and raise risks or uncertainties promptly.
Skills
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) for effective communication with team members and understanding project documentation.
- Problem Solving - Tackle both large scale/conceptual level and detail/task level problems.
- Time Management – must be realistic about how long tasks will take and assess if meeting specific deadlines will be problematic.
- Working proficiency in Autodesk Revit, particularly the Family Editor environment.
- Understanding of reference planes, constraints, parameters, formulas, family types, nested families, and visibility controls.
- Ability to interpret technical sketches, manufacturer information, schedules,
and written family specifications.
- Basic understanding of BIM content standards, model performance, and quality-control principles.
- Ability to create accurate geometry and symbolic representation appropriate to various levels of detail.
- Organised and detail-oriented approach, with the discipline to follow standards and repeatable checking procedures.
- Problem-solving skills and willingness to investigate, test and correct family behaviour.
- Clear written and verbal communication in English for collaboration with international team members and interpretation of technical documentation.
- Ability to manage defined priorities and deliver tasks to agreed deadlines.
- Knowledge of Dynamo, Programming, Revit API, Forma, Navisworks or content-management platforms would be useful but is not essential.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Technical, technological degree in drafting of architectural or engineering or professional degree in architecture or engineering.
- Demonstrable experience creating or modifying loadable Revit families.
- Interest in digital content development, BIM standardisation, and the wider built environment.
Preferred Experience
- Practical experience of minimum 3 years using Revit for modelling or content creation. Experience may have been gained through employment, internships, academic projects, or a demonstrable portfolio.
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural or structural Revit content.
- Experience working with shared parameters, connectors, type catalogues, lookup tables, or parameter-rich content.
- Experience testing content in multidisciplinary projects or aga
