FrontEnd Video Playback Engineer at Televisa Univision (via Insight Integral)
Team: Small team composed of front-end, backend, and infrastructure engineers
Experience: 5+ years, senior level
Interview process: One-and-done interview
Location: Remote in Colombia or Mexico
Duration: 6months to start
What they’re building
TelevisaUnivision currently uses a third-party provider for its MultiView experience, which allows users to watch multiple live matches at the same time.
The current third-party implementation is not meeting their needs, so they are bringing the development in-house. This engineer will build the isolated front-end MultiView feature, which TelevisaUnivision will then launch through its web experience.
This is not a normal day-to-day codebase role. They need someone who can come in with limited ramp-up, work independently, and make sound technical decisions without constant direction.
Must-haves
- English and Spanish proficiency
- 5+ years of front-end engineering experience
- Strong JavaScript and TypeScript
- Strong React
- Next.js experience
- Hands-on web video playback experience
- Strong understanding of live-streaming behavior
- Ability to work independently and make architectural or implementation decisions
- Experience troubleshooting playback issues, not just building UI around an embedded player
Video knowledge they care about
Candidates should have a solid foundation in:
- HLS playback
- MPEG-DASH playback
- Video manifests
- Audio tracks and track selection
- Stream loading
- Buffering and rebuffering
- Playback failures
- Live-stream latency
- Player behavior and performance
- Browser developer tools for investigating streams
- Video playback across modern web browsers
Strong preference
Live video experience is significantly more valuable than VOD experience.
MultiView will initially be used solely for live events, not video-on-demand. A candidate with live sports, live TV, FAST, OTT, or similar streaming experience should be prioritized.
Nice-to-haves
- Previous MultiView experience
- SolidTV
- Smart TV or connected-TV development
- Experience optimizing video applications for TV performance
- Multiple simultaneous video streams
- Sports-streaming background
- Familiarity with DRM, adaptive bitrate streaming, or audio/video synchronization
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
Employees in this role will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package starting on day one of employment, including options for medical, dental, and vision insurance. Eligibility to enroll in the 401(k) retirement plan begins after 90 days of employment. Additionally, employees in this role will have access to paid sick leave and other paid time off benefits as required under the applicable law of the worksite location.
