USD 34 - 34 Hourly Director Level Finance and AccountingAbout the JobWe are looking for an unusual finance leader: someone who combines a strong accounting foundation with sophisticated FP&A; capabilities, commercial judgment, and a genuine builder’s mindset. We are looking for a builder and a thinker, not simply a reporter. This person will own the integrity of our financial reporting, but reporting what happened is only the starting point. We want someone who can build the financial infrastructure for where client is going, use data to anticipate what comes next, challenge assumptions, identify opportunities and risks, and help management make better decisions. The role is deliberately hybrid. It requires enough accounting and controllership depth to ensure the numbers are right, combined with the analytical and commercial mindset of a strong FP&A; leader. The right person will be equally comfortable improving the monthly close, building a multi-year financial model, analyzing SaaS and recurring-revenue economics, creating management dashboards, evaluating strategic scenarios, and using AI and automation to fundamentally improve how the finance function do not want someone who simply inherits a finance process and runs it. We want someone who builds a better one. What Makes This Role DifferentThis is not a traditional Controller position, nor is it a pure FP&A; role. We are looking for the combination:Accounting discipline + FP&A; thinking + commercial judgment + AI/automation + builder mentality. The successful candidate should naturally ask not only: "Are the numbers right?"but also: "What are the numbers tellingus, what happens next, and what should we do about it? " This is a hands-on role in a growing entrepreneurial company. The person needs to be comfortable moving from detail to strategy and back again. There will be times when this person is deep in the accounting and other times when they are working directly with the founders on a strategic decision.ResponsibilitiesAccounting & ControllershipOwn the monthly close and ensure accurate, timely financial statements.Maintain appropriate financial controls, reconciliations, and accounting processes.Oversee the general ledger and ensure the integrity of the company’s financial data.Coordinate tax, audit, and outside accounting relationships.Oversee cash management, cash forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other core finance activities.Continually improve the speed, accuracy,
and efficiency of the close and reporting process.Build financial processes and infrastructure that can scale as client grows.Maintain the accounting discipline expected of a professionally managed company while avoiding unnecessary bureaucracyFP&A; & Strategic FinanceBuild and maintain client’s financial model, annual budget, and rolling forecasts.Develop scenarios around membership growth, pricing, retention, revenue, gross margins, operating expenses, hiring, and cash requirements.Build forward-looking forecasts that allow management to understand the financial implications of different strategic decisions.Develop management reporting that clearly explains what is happening in the business, why it is happening, and what management should be paying attention to.Analyze SaaS and recurring-revenue metrics, unit economics, gross margins, customer acquisition, retention, churn, and operating leverage.Help management understand the key drivers of profitability and cash generation as the business scales.Provide financial analysis and decision support directly to the founders and management team.Support investor reporting and help present the company’s financial performance and outlook clearly and professionally.Challenge assumptions constructively and identify risks and opportunities before they become obvious in the financial statements. AI, Automation & Systems AI and automation should be fundamental to how this person thinks about building the finance function.Identify repetitive accounting and finance processes that can be automated.Use AI to accelerate financial analysis, forecasting, reporting, variance analysis, and management insight.Reduce unnecessary manual work and dependence on spreadsheets. Integrate financial and operating data to create more timely and useful management information.Help develop dashboards and reporting that allow management to see the important drivers of the business quickly.Continually evaluate new financial, analytical, data, and AI tools.Use technology to allow the finance function to scale without adding unnecessary headcount.Be intellectually curious about how AI will change accounting and finance rather than simply using existing processes more efficiently.Experience with SaaS, subscription,
or other recurring-revenue business models is strongly preferred. We would particularly value someone who has worked directly with recurring-revenue economics and understands metrics such as:ARR and MRRRevenue growthRetention and churnCustomer acquisition costLifetime valueGross marginCohort economicsRecurring-revenue forecastingThe candidate does not necessarily need to come from a pure software company. What matters is that they understand the economics of a recurring-revenue business and can apply that thinking to Clients company.QualificationsApproximately 7-12+ years of relevant finance experience.A strong accounting, Controller, public accounting, and/or audit foundation.Meaningful FP&A; experience, including financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis.Experience in a high-growth, entrepreneurial, technology-enabled, or similarly dynamic business.SaaS, subscription, or recurring-revenue experience strongly preferred.Strong financial modeling and analytical skills.Experience developing management reporting and financial dashboards.Strong understanding of cash flow, margins, unit economics, and the financial drivers of a growing business.Demonstrated interest in and practical use of AI, automation, and modern financial technology. The ability to turn financial information into clear business recommendations.Strong written and verbal communication skills. The confidence to challenge assumptions while working constructively with founders and other members of management. The ability to operate independently in a virtual environment.
