VMware is looking for a Product Manager to join the Modern Applications Platform Business Unit (MAPBU) product team with a focus on the Tanzu Developer Experience. VMware customers are increasingly deploying containers as the foundation of their application modernization efforts. The MAPBU team delivers best-in-class enterprise cloud-native solutions – supporting container frameworks such as Kubernetes.



The Tanzu team is chartered with providing application teams with a “native” Kubernetes experience that complements our existing Tanzu Application Service offering. As a member of this fast-paced, startup-like team,

you will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the product roadmap while developing skills in cutting-edge technologies. You will be part of an action-oriented team that has a culture of open communication, empowerment, innovation, teamwork, and customer success.





What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?



Your mission will be to understand in depth developers' everyday challenges and define and evangelize a set of features and solutions that will support Application developers in their journey to develop modern applications in Kubernetes environments. You will be working cross-functionally with user experience, engineering and open source communities to create an innovative solution that builds on top of a healthy ecosystem of internal and open source tools.



Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?



- You will be contributing to product definition, roadmap, and direction of Tanzu features



- You will be contributing to customer and market research that the team will use to drive the strategy forward



- You will be contributing to producing a clear MVP definition and roadmap and working collaboratively with design and engineering to execute on it through proper prioritization.



- You will be working to bring the customer and their needs closer to the development team through research, customer engagements and involving customers in the incremental progress of the development team



- You will partner with users, customers, and account teams to facilitate successful customer proof of concept deployments



What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?



- Take a large problem which has been broken down into smaller chunks and further define the problem space



- Obsessed with customers and users and able to use a variety of strategies, processes and tools to understand their needs



- Capable of maintaining a positive and flexible attitude



- Is a real team player with strong communication and collaboration skills



- 2+ years of experience as a product manager, technical product marketing, technical marketing, systems engineer or experience working in a customer environment as an architect or senior practitioner



- Good technical skills



- Ability to understand complex systems at a technical level



- Familiarity with popular programming languages and frameworks



- Understanding of agile software development methodologies and tools



- Strong propensity to drive for results as part of a high performing team



- Experience working with Kubernetes and its ecosystem is a plus



- Previous experience as a developer is a plus

The hiring manager for this role is Mandy Priamo, Product Lead of Developer Enablement Program. Mandy leads a team responsible for Developer Experience as part of Tanzu Modern Application Stack. The team is made up of individuals with diverse backgrounds (on Open Source and Commercial Products) who are excited about delivering innovative offerings to enable Tanzu’s largest customers to build, run, and manage modern applications.
