Financial Controller (Remote)

Location: Remote (Latin America)

Compensation: $3,500 – $4,500 USD/month

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9 AM – 6 PM CT (40 hours/week)

About the Company

Our client is a funded startup or PE-backed SMB that has outgrown bookkeeping and needs a finance owner who can deliver clean books, on-time closes, and numbers that hold up to boards, auditors, and investors. They are looking for someone who takes ownership of the accounting function end to end and builds the controls and processes the company needs to scale.

About the Role

You own the accounting function from close to reporting. You run the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close; keep the books accurate under US GAAP; and make sure every number that leaves the company is one leadership can stand behind. Some weeks you are deep in the close and reporting package.

Other weeks you are setting up the controls and processes the company never had. This role fits someone who is equal parts hands-on accountant and process builder, and who is trusted because the work is right.

Key Responsibilities

- Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, and deliver accurate financial statements on time.
- Keep the books compliant with US GAAP, including revenue recognition, accruals, and consolidations.
- Build and enforce the internal controls, accounting policies, and processes the business needs as it scales.
- Own accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and cash and reconciliation workflows.
- Prepare reporting packages for leadership, the board, and investors, and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Use AI and modern accounting tools to tighten the close and reduce manual work.

Who You Are

- You have 7+ years in accounting, with time as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager.




- You know US GAAP cold and have owned a full close cycle for a US company.
- You are fluent in modern accounting systems such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, or Xero, and comfortable building process from scratch.
- Your English is excellent in speech and writing; you report to leadership and deal with auditors directly.
- You are precise: you catch the error before it reaches the board, and you keep the close on schedule.

Bonus Points

- CPA, MBA, or equivalent certification.
- Startup, PE-backed, or multi-entity experience.
- Experience standing up a finance function or leading an audit.
- Comfortable using AI to speed the close and reporting.

What Success Looks Like

First 90 Days

- You have completed two full close cycles and delivered accurate, on-time financial statements to leadership and the board.
- You have documented the current accounting processes, identified gaps in controls, and presented a roadmap for improvements.
- You have built working relationships with the leadership team, external auditors, and tax advisors.

Ongoing
- The monthly close is predictable, accurate, and delivered on schedule every month without exceptions.
- Internal controls are documented, enforced, and regularly tested; audit findings are minimal or non-existent.
- Leadership and the board trust the numbers you deliver and use them to make informed business decisions.
