Design the systems that shape a more sustainable future.
At Worley, we’re delivering a more sustainable world. As a Senior Instrumentation Designer, you’ll use your advanced experience in instrumentation design and modeling to support critical industrial projects—helping customers modernize their operations while contributing to the energy transition.
Purpose of the role
In this role, you’ll take ownership of complex instrumentation design tasks, applying strong technical judgment, industry standards, and multidisciplinary coordination. You’ll guide less experienced designers, ensure high‑quality deliverables, and contribute directly to the creation of safe, reliable and future‑ready instrumentation systems.
Core responsibilities
- Perform advanced instrumentation design and 2D/3D modeling throughout conceptual, basic and detailed engineering for projects in Oil & Gas, Mining, Infrastructure and other industrial sectors.
- Apply sound decision‑making to instrumentation deliverables; escalate highly complex issues to senior engineers when needed.
- Plan, organize and execute assigned design activities autonomously to meet project requirements and deadlines.
- Lead or guide teams of up to six less‑experienced designers, ensuring high standards of accuracy and quality.
- Prepare and review instrumentation drawings, layouts, cable routing, instrument indexes, I/O lists, loop diagrams,
and other discipline deliverables.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, project leaders, and interdisciplinary design teams.
- Communicate clearly through reports, presentations and design reviews to support decision‑making.
- Work proficiently with specialized instrumentation design tools and data‑centric digital engineering environments.
- Support priority-setting, coordination across workstreams, and a collaborative team culture.
- Ensure deliverables are accurate “right the first time” through strong attention to detail and disciplined execution.
Skills & experience
- More than 5 years of experience in instrumentation design within industrial engineering environments.
- Solid understanding of instrumentation codes, standards and industry best practices.
- Proven experience delivering instrumentation drawings and models across all engineering phases.
- Experience with AutoCAD 2D/3D and SmartPlant 3D (SP3D) is required.
- Experience with AVEVA E3D is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of:
- 3D modeling criteria for instrumentation
- Cable routing and control system interconnections
- Control system architectures including DCS, ESD, Fire & Gas, and telecommunications
- Experience working with interdisciplinary, data‑centric engineering platforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Excellent communication skills—clear, concise and collaborative.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while supporting development of junior designers.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills with adaptability to new technologies and methods.
Minimum education: High school diploma
Minimum experience: 5–10 years
Telework eligibility: Yes — Autonomous mode
